Our grey parrot dummy is a life-size grey parrot doll for the simulation of interactions with our musical instruments and test devices. The dummy helps us to adapt the developed instruments to the physical characteristics of the grey parrots even before the first contact with the living animals.
This is our first prototype to test the musical and auditive preferences of grey parrots. The device consists of a joystick, that can be used by the parrots to play music and test sounds. In addition, it is equipped with an RFID reader. The reader recognizes the individual grey parrot, that is interacting with the device.
To make the device “parrot safe” it was packed into a housing. Additionally a wooden stick was mounted to the device and serve now as seating facility for the birds.
The first experiments with the device and the grey parrots were carried out in July 2016. Unfortunately it was not fully convincing and it is currently on standby.
In March 2016, alien productions and the Institute Interface Cultures, Universität für künstlerische und industrielle Gestaltung Linz joined to work together on a new working period of metamusic.
In this blog we will post regularly our insights, thoughts and developments.
